Why the stimulant is not optional
13-OH is a synergist. On its own at blend-level inclusions it is subtle, and even at standalone levels it performs better with something alongside it than by itself. We would rather say that plainly than sell you a single-ingredient story your own bench trial would contradict within an afternoon.
What the pairing does is give the product a shape — the stimulant provides the lift, and 13-OH fills out the character around it so the result reads as more than caffeine. What is established versus observed.
The build
| Component | Typical | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 13-OH | 100 mg or above | Standalone territory. Below this in a stimulant product it tends to disappear behind the caffeine. |
| Stimulant | Caffeine, paraxanthine, theacrine, eria jarensis | Paraxanthine and theacrine give a different curve from caffeine — worth benching more than one. |
| Optional | Alpha-GPC, L-theanine | Theanine takes the edge off a caffeine-forward build; alpha-GPC is common in focus products. |
| Format | Tablet or 15 ml shot | Smaller formats suit this build — it is a functional dose, not a social serve. |
What to watch
- Total stimulant load. Your safety assessment should treat the finished formula as the unit of analysis, and should account for the fact that people take these alongside coffee and energy drinks.
- Cost per serving. At 100 mg-plus you are using three to four times the material a blend build uses. That is a real input-cost difference and it should be in your model before you commit to a run.
- Claims. Energy and focus products attract claim language quickly. Keep it to structure-and-function register and get copy reviewed. The marketing guide.
- Piperine. It increases duration and perceived effect and it noticeably degrades taste. In a small tablet that trade-off is often worth it; in a flavoured shot think harder.
Who this is for
Brands that want a product with no kratom-derived ingredient at all and a functional rather than social positioning — and brands already selling energy or focus products who want something on the label that competitors cannot source. It also suits retailers who will not stock kratom but will stock a botanical energy product.
It is not the right build if you are trying to replicate a mitragynine product. That is MIT + 13, or it is nothing.
Common questions
Because there is no other active carrying the profile. In a blend, 25–40 mg is doing its job alongside something else; standing alone it needs considerably more to be noticeable, and it still benefits from a stimulant alongside it.
If it contains no Mitragyna speciosa material, yes — state kratom acts do not reach it. The regulatory detail.
That depends on the curve you want. Caffeine is familiar and cheap; paraxanthine and theacrine give a different onset and duration. Bench more than one — the difference is noticeable and it is the main lever you have in this build.
Tablets or 15 ml shots. It is a functional dose rather than something to sip, and the smaller formats reflect that.
