Why 13-OH is structurally different
Each of the compounds above is built on mitragynine — chemistry regulators were already examining. 13-OH is not. Its parent alkaloid and its source plant have no scheduling history at any level of government, which means there is no existing listing for a derivative rule to attach to. 13-OH is not relabelled tetrahydropalmatine. High-performance liquid chromatography separates the two cleanly — the parent alkaloid elutes at 15.0 minutes, 13-OH at 18.8. That hydroxyl modification is what changes how it performs alongside other actives.

In a mitragynine-forward product, 13-OH carries part of the sensory load. That lets a formulator reach a target profile at a lower mitragynine inclusion — a shorter ingredient statement, a lighter alkaloid burden, and a product that is easier to stand behind.
