The compliant differentiator

What is 13-OH?

13-OH Corydalis Yanhusuo is a hydroxylated alkaloid derived from Corydalis yanhusuo rhizome — not a kratom alkaloid, not a scheduled substance, and the one remaining way a botanical brand can put something genuinely different on the shelf.

Why now

The shelf just reset. Again.

Through 2025 and into 2026, the compounds that let brands differentiate came under federal action one after another. What's left on most shelves is mitragynine — the same molecule, in the same formats, from every competitor.

Exiting

7-OH

7-hydroxymitragynine drew FDA warning letters and a DEA notice of intent to schedule in July 2026. Several states moved first.

Exiting

Pseudoindoxyl & MGM-15

The two most-recommended replacements were named in the same July 2026 notices. Brands that pivoted to them pivoted into the next problem.

A dead end

Novel synthetics

Compounds engineered around a schedule invite analogue scrutiny by construction. The pattern repeats, and the timeline gets shorter each cycle.

Why 13-OH is structurally different

Each of the compounds above is built on mitragynine — chemistry regulators were already examining. 13-OH is not. Its parent alkaloid and its source plant have no scheduling history at any level of government, which means there is no existing listing for a derivative rule to attach to. That is a different legal position, not a faster version of the same race. See the regulatory summary →

Verified identity

It is its own molecule.

13-OH is not relabelled tetrahydropalmatine. High-performance liquid chromatography separates the two cleanly — the parent alkaloid elutes at 15.0 minutes, 13-OH at 18.8. That hydroxyl modification is what changes how it performs alongside other actives.

The formulation case

More 13. Less mitragynine.

In a mitragynine-forward product, 13-OH carries part of the sensory load. That lets a formulator reach a target profile at a lower mitragynine inclusion — a shorter ingredient statement, a lighter alkaloid burden, and a product that is easier to stand behind.

Smoother
Formulators consistently report reduced sensory harshness — the single most common complaint about mitragynine-forward products.
Fuller
A rounder overall character than mitragynine alone produces at the same inclusion.
Lower MIT
Because 13 contributes to the profile, the same target can be met with less mitragynine per serving.
Kratom-free
Or remove mitragynine entirely and build with kava and kanna — outside every state kratom act.

Recommended blend range

25–40 mg per serving is the range that performs in a blend. Above roughly 100 mg you are into standalone territory, which needs a stimulant alongside it to be worth doing.

Proven directions

MIT + 13

Add 13-OH to a mitragynine tablet or shot. Smoother delivery, fuller character, and less mitragynine per serving than the same target requires on its own.

How MIT + 13 works →

Kava · Kanna · 13

No mitragynine at all. A botanical stack for the social-relaxation category that sits outside every state kratom act in the country.

The kratom-free path →

13 + Stimulant

At higher inclusions with caffeine or a botanical stimulant, 13-OH anchors a product with no kratom-derived ingredient on the label at all.
